Home care on the Haven waterway
Milford Haven is a planned Georgian town on one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, founded by Quaker whalers from Nantucket and now home to the oil and gas terminals that line the waterway. Families searching for home care in Milford Haven are supporting parents in the town centre and along Hamilton Terrace, in Hakin and Hubberston across the Hubberston Pill, in Steynton and Priory, and in nearby Neyland, Johnston, Herbrandston and Dale. Many streets climb steeply from the waterfront. A carer who lives in helps your relative stay safe and keep getting out.
We also arrange care in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Tenby, St Davids, Carmarthen and Cardigan.

Withybush General in Haverfordwest
Emergency and inpatient care for Milford Haven is usually at Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest, run by Hywel Dda University Health Board, with some services at Glangwili in Carmarthen and specialist care in Swansea or Cardiff. A live-in carer in Milford Haven arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to support, rather than waiting for a package of visits.
Pembrokeshire County Council and Welsh charging
Adult social care in Milford Haven is provided by Pembrokeshire County Council, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
The marina, Hamilton Terrace and the coast path
The marina and the town museum, a walk along Hamilton Terrace above the water, the beaches at Sandy Haven and Gelliswick and the coast path around Dale are favourite outings. Many older people here worked at the refineries, the fish docks or at sea. If your relative prefers Welsh, tell us when we match. Couples can stay together with one carer supporting both. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.

Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
