Home care in Pembrokeshire's county town
Haverfordwest is the county town of Pembrokeshire, an old market town on the Western Cleddau, with its castle ruins on the hill above a riverside quay. Families searching for home care in Haverfordwest are supporting parents in the town centre and along the High Street, in Prendergast and Merlin's Bridge, in Portfield and the estates on the edge of town, and in villages such as Johnston, Camrose, Crundale, Roch, Spittal, Freystrop, Broad Haven and Little Haven. Out on the farms and along St Brides Bay, visiting care can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, St Davids, Tenby, Cardigan and Carmarthen.

Withybush General, in the town
Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest, run by Hywel Dda University Health Board, provides emergency and inpatient care for much of Pembrokeshire, with some services at Glangwili in Carmarthen and specialist treatment in Swansea or Cardiff. A live-in carer in Haverfordwest arranged before discharge means your relative can come home as soon as they are medically fit, to someone ready to help.
Pembrokeshire County Council, based in the town
Adult social care in Haverfordwest is provided by Pembrokeshire County Council, whose County Hall stands by the river. It carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
The castle, the Riverside and Picton
The castle and the town museum, a walk along the Riverside, the gardens at Picton Castle and Scolton Manor, and the beach at Broad Haven are favourite outings, and the livestock market still draws farmers from across the county. Many older people here have farmed all their lives or worked at the refineries and the air base. If your relative prefers Welsh, tell us when we match. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. The council's adult social care team for Pembrokeshire can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
