Home care at the mouth of the Teifi
Cardigan is a small market town on the River Teifi, where Ceredigion meets Pembrokeshire, with a restored castle where the first eisteddfod is said to have been held in 1176. Families searching for home care in Cardigan are supporting parents in the town centre and around the Guildhall, in the estates on the hills above the river, in Gwbert and Penparc towards the sea, in Llangoedmor, and in Aberporth on the coast and St Dogmaels and Cilgerran across the Teifi. Out on the farms, visiting care can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Carmarthen, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

Glangwili, Bronglais or Withybush
Cardigan is a long way from an acute hospital. Emergencies usually go to Glangwili in Carmarthen, Bronglais in Aberystwyth or Withybush in Haverfordwest, all run by Hywel Dda University Health Board, while the Cardigan Integrated Care Centre provides clinics, a minor injuries service and community beds. A live-in carer in Cardigan arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to support.
Ceredigion, or Pembrokeshire over the bridge
Cardigan itself is in Ceredigion, whose council provides adult social care and carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. St Dogmaels and Cilgerran, just across the Teifi, are in Pembrokeshire, so check which council covers your relative's address. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home.
The castle, the Mwldan and the coracles
Cardigan Castle and its gardens, the Guildhall market, Theatr Mwldan, the Welsh Wildlife Centre and the coracles at Cilgerran are favourite outings, and dolphins are often seen off Mwnt and Aberporth. Many older people here have farmed or fished all their lives, and Welsh is the language of home for many. Tell us if your relative prefers a Welsh speaker. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

0800 368 8558Lines open 8am–10pm, seven days a week See all questionsIs there help with the cost of care in Cardigan?
Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Where needs are mainly health-related, NHS Continuing Healthcare can pay in full. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
Do you cover areas near Cardigan?
Yes. Carers move into the home rather than travelling from a local branch, so we cover Cardigan and the towns and villages around it, including Carmarthen, Haverfordwest and Tenby. Rural addresses are covered too, at the same weekly price.
How many care homes are there in Cardigan?
Our care-home directory lists 2 registered care homes in Cardigan. If you are weighing up a care home, live-in care is the alternative that keeps your relative at home with one carer supporting only them, and we can explain how the two compare on cost.
