General live-in home care provides non-medical home care services with tasks, companionship, therapy, and general health maintenance. General home caregiving may include help and support with routine tasks of life such as preparing meals, mobility, scheduling of appointments, rehabilitation and therapy, companionship, bathing, dressing, and grooming. However, it is not limited to this list only. You can actually get a customized care plan according to your unique needs, lifestyle, hobbies, and routine. The customized care plan of the client also relates to any health problem, chronic or acute, or any condition needing assistance, if he is having any.
Live-in general home care suiting the client’s life and needs is essential for improving the quality of one’s life, especially when on the receiving end is a senior in his years of a large amount of ample time. You can make these years golden by making them feel independent, psychologically and mentally safe and healthy, and most importantly, in their homes.
Having said that, you don’t just hire or ask anyone to 24/7 live in home care assistance with you and provide Inhome care services. Instead, it is better you rely on some trustworthy caregiving agency to have your back and take responsibility.

Common questions
Questions about general home care
What families ask us before arranging care.
Not seeing your question?
Our care managers answer these every day. A no-obligation call takes about ten minutes.
0800 368 8558Lines open 8am–10pm, seven days a week See all questionsHow much does in home health care cost?
Prices for in home health care start at £1,200 a week. That is one fixed weekly fee covering everything in the agreed care plan, rather than an hourly rate that rises as needs grow. For couples, one carer can support two people under a single fee. See our pricing page for the full breakdown, or use the cost calculator for an estimate based on your own situation.
How quickly can care start?
In most cases we can have a carer in place within a week. For urgent situations — a hospital discharge, a fall, or a family carer suddenly unable to continue — we can often arrange cover within 24 to 48 hours.
Who will the carer be, and do we get a choice?
You choose. We send profiles of matched, available carers and you decide, including a video call beforehand if you would like one. It is the same carer each day rather than a rota, so they learn the routine and notice small changes early. Every carer is enhanced DBS checked, referenced and interviewed in person before we introduce them.
What does the carer actually do day to day?
Personal care, medication prompting and administration, meal preparation, light housework, laundry, shopping, appointments and companionship — all shaped around the agreed care plan. The aim is that daily life continues as normally as possible, in familiar surroundings.
Is this better than moving into a care home?
It depends on the person, and we will say so honestly if a care home is the better answer. What live-in care offers is one-to-one attention rather than shared staffing, no upheaval from a familiar home, pets and routines kept, and visitors whenever you like. For couples it is usually far better value than two residential placements.
Can we get help paying for it?
Often, yes. Depending on circumstances and where you live, support may come through a local authority assessment, NHS Continuing Healthcare, Attendance Allowance or a personal budget. Our funding guide explains what to apply for and in what order, and our care managers will talk it through without obligation.
Where we work
General Home Care across the UK, Scotland & Ireland
We arrange care in 800+ towns and cities. Choose your area for local pricing, funding and how care is regulated where you live.
- Carers travel to you — they move into the home rather than driving from a local branch, so rural and coastal areas are covered too.
- The same weekly price everywhere — care is priced on the support needed, never on your postcode.
- Care can start in 24–48 hours in most areas, and often the same day after a hospital discharge.
Can’t see your area? Call 0800 368 8558 — we almost certainly still cover it.
