For couples, live-in care is often significantly better value than two care home places, because one carer can usually support both people under a single plan.
Your weekly fee covers everything agreed in the care plan: personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, companionship and night-time support at the level specified. There are no additional charges for routine day-to-day care.
For a single person, live-in care and a care home are often broadly similar in price — but live-in care keeps someone in their own home, with one-to-one attention rather than shared staff. For couples, it's usually the cheaper option outright, since a care home charges for two separate places.

For couples it very often is, since one live-in carer can support two people for a single fee, where a care home would charge for two placements. For one person the costs are broadly comparable, but live-in care means one-to-one attention rather than shared staff.
Possibly. Local authority funding is means tested in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; Scotland provides free personal and nursing care to those assessed as needing it. NHS Continuing Healthcare may also apply where needs are primarily health related.
