Not seeing your question?
Our care managers answer these every day. A no-obligation call takes about ten minutes.
0800 368 8558Lines open 8am–10pm, seven days a weekWhy should you hire our live-in care agency rather than a private carer?
Here are the reasons: When you hire a private care provider, you have to do a background check and screening on your own. And after you hire them, you have to supervise their every move, which isn't a piece of cake. At Live-in Care Direct, we follow a reliable and rigorous process to screen and interview carers to get the highest quality of care you deserve. When your private carer takes sick leave or goes out of the station to handle some family matter, you need to take care of your ageing adult on your own or find a replacement. When you use our agency, we always have a backup carer. Our elderly carers are young, enthusiastic, and compassionate and work under a specific care plan built by our experts. We also have a team of specialised supervisors who keep a check on the level of are being delivered. Our care services include 24/7 care and hourly care. Most importantly, we are there for the journey. When you hire our carer, you're hiring a whole team of individuals who care.
Is live-in care safe?
Yes. Every carer we introduce is DBS-checked and hand-matched to your loved one's needs, and our Specialist and Advanced plans include access to a 24-hour care line, so support is never more than a phone call away. Your care manager stays in regular contact after care begins, so if anything about the arrangement isn't working, it gets addressed quickly rather than left to become a problem.
What tasks can my carer help with day to day?
Typical day-to-day support includes washing, dressing and personal care; preparing meals; medication prompts; light household tasks like cleaning and laundry; help with shopping; companionship; and accompanying your loved one to appointments. The exact mix is agreed in advance as part of the care plan, and can flex as needs change — see our plans above for what's included at each level.
Will I need any medical equipment?
It depends on your loved one's situation. Many aids and adaptations — from a hospital-style bed to grab rails — can be arranged free of charge through a local authority occupational therapy assessment; your care manager can point you toward the right local service.
Is there a minimum length for respite care?
Our standard minimum for respite care is two weeks. If you're not sure how long you'll need, talk to your care manager — they can help you work out a realistic timeframe based on the situation.
How long does a carer stay before taking a break, and who covers while they're off?
On our Standard and Specialist plans, a carer typically stays for three to four weeks before taking a week's break, during which a second carer we've already introduced to your loved one covers, so care continues without a gap. (Our Advanced plan works differently: two carers share round-the-clock cover from the start, so there's no single-carer handover to manage.)
