Home care on Holy Island
Holyhead is the largest town on Anglesey, a busy ferry port on Holy Island at the western tip of Wales, with ships sailing to Dublin and a mountain rising behind the town. Families searching for home care in Holyhead are supporting parents in the town centre and around the market square, in Morawelon and Kingsland, in Llaingoch towards the mountain, in Porthdafarch and Trearddur Bay, in Rhoscolyn and Four Mile Bridge, and across the Stanley Embankment in Valley, Bodedern and Llanfachraeth. It is a long way to a big hospital. A carer who lives in means someone is always there.
We also arrange care in Anglesey, Bangor, Caernarfon, Llandudno, Porthmadog and Gwynedd.

Ysbyty Gwynedd and Penrhos Stanley
Emergency and inpatient care for Holyhead is at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, about half an hour away, while Penrhos Stanley Hospital in Holyhead provides rehabilitation beds and clinics. A live-in carer in Holyhead arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to support, rather than waiting for a package of visits.
Isle of Anglesey County Council
Adult social care in Holyhead is provided by the Isle of Anglesey County Council, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments and works through Welsh and English. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
The breakwater, South Stack and the mountain
The long breakwater and its country park, the lighthouse and seabird cliffs at South Stack, the walk up Holyhead Mountain and the Ucheldre Centre are favourite outings. Many older people here worked at the port, on the ferries, at the aluminium works or at RAF Valley, and Welsh is spoken in many homes. Tell us if your relative prefers a Welsh speaker. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Where needs are mainly health-related, NHS Continuing Healthcare can pay in full. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
Can you arrange live-in care near Holyhead?
Yes. Carers move into the home rather than travelling from a local branch, so we cover Holyhead and the towns and villages around it, including Caernarfon, Bangor, Llandudno and Porthmadog. Rural addresses are covered too, at the same weekly price.
