Home care in the royal town on the Menai
Caernarfon is a walled royal town on the Menai Strait, dominated by its great castle, and one of the strongest Welsh-speaking communities in the world. Families searching for home care in Caernarfon are supporting parents inside the town walls and around Y Maes, in Twthill, Maesincla and Ysgubor Goch, in Bontnewydd and Llanrug, in Waunfawr and Llanberis towards Eryri, in Groeslon and Penygroes in the Nantlle valley, and in Y Felinheli along the Strait. Out in the slate villages, visiting care can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Bangor, Anglesey, Porthmadog, Holyhead, Gwynedd and Llandudno.

Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor
Emergency and inpatient care for Caernarfon is at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, about fifteen minutes away, with community clinics in the town and some specialist treatment in Liverpool. A live-in carer in Caernarfon arranged before discharge means your relative can come home as soon as they are medically fit, to someone ready to help.
Gwynedd Council, based in the town
Adult social care in Caernarfon is provided by Gwynedd Council, whose offices are in the town and which works through the Welsh language. It carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed.
The castle, Y Maes and the Welsh Highland Railway
The castle and the promenade along the Strait, the square at Y Maes, the Roman fort at Segontium and the steam trains of the Welsh Highland Railway are favourite outings. Many older people here worked in the slate quarries of Llanberis and Nantlle, at sea or in the town's shops, and Welsh is their first language. A carer who speaks Welsh can make a real difference. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. The council's adult social care team for Gwynedd can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost.
