Live-in care from Eryri to Llŷn
Gwynedd is the mountainous heart of north-west Wales, from the Menai Strait and Eryri to the Llŷn peninsula, the slate towns and the long coast of Meirionnydd, and Welsh is the everyday language for most people. Families searching for home care in Gwynedd are supporting parents in Bangor and Bethesda, in Caernarfon and Llanberis, in Porthmadog, Criccieth and Pwllheli, in Nefyn and Abersoch on Llŷn, in Blaenau Ffestiniog and Bala, and in Dolgellau, Barmouth and Tywyn. In the mountain villages, visiting care can be almost impossible to arrange. A live-in carer lives with your relative instead.
We have local pages for towns across the county, including Bangor, Caernarfon, Porthmadog, Dolgellau and Machynlleth.

Ysbyty Gwynedd and the community hospitals
Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, provides emergency and specialist care for the county, with community hospitals such as Bryn Beryl in Pwllheli, Alltwen in Tremadog, Eryri in Caernarfon, Dolgellau and Tywyn offering rehabilitation and minor injuries care. A live-in carer in Gwynedd can be ready for discharge, however long the journey home.
Gwynedd Council, working in Welsh
Adult social care is provided by Gwynedd Council, based in Caernarfon, which works through the Welsh language and carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
Slate, farms and the language of home
Many older people in Gwynedd worked in the slate quarries, on the hill farms or at sea, and for most of them Welsh is the language of home, chapel and memory. A carer who speaks Welsh, or respects it, can make a real difference; tell us when we match. The Ffestiniog Railway, the beaches of Llŷn and the lakes of Eryri are favourite outings. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified

Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Where needs are mainly health-related, NHS Continuing Healthcare can pay in full. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
