Home care in Wales's new town
Cwmbran was the first and only new town built in Wales, from 1949, and many of its first families still live in the homes they moved into. Families searching for home care in Cwmbran are supporting parents in the town centre and Pontnewydd, in Fairwater, Greenmeadow and Henllys, in Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon, in Coed Eva, Thornhill and St Dials, and in Oakfield and Old Cwmbran. A carer who lives in lets your relative stay in the neighbourhood they know, with help at any hour.
We also arrange care in Pontypool, Newport, Caerphilly, Abergavenny, Monmouth and Chepstow.

The Grange University Hospital, on the doorstep
The Grange University Hospital at Llanfrechfa, on the edge of Cwmbran, is Aneurin Bevan University Health Board's specialist critical care centre, taking the most serious emergencies for the region. The County Hospital in Pontypool and the Royal Gwent in Newport provide other services. A live-in carer in Cwmbran can be ready for discharge from any of them.
Torfaen Council and paying for care in Wales
Adult social care is provided by Torfaen County Borough Council, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales, and NHS Continuing Healthcare is assessed separately where needs are mainly health-related.
Greenmeadow farm and the canal
Greenmeadow Community Farm, Llanyrafon Mill and the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal give lovely, easy outings, and the town centre was built for walking. A carer can help your relative keep getting out, to chapel, a club or to see family. If your relative prefers Welsh, tell us and we will look for a Welsh-speaking carer. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. The council's adult social care team for Torfaen can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.

Yes. Carers move into the home rather than travelling from a local branch, so we cover Cwmbran and the towns and villages around it, including Newport, Pontypool, Caerphilly and Cardiff. Rural addresses are covered too, at the same weekly price.
