Home care in the gateway to Wales
Abergavenny is a market town in the Usk valley, ringed by three mountains, the Sugar Loaf, the Blorenge and the Skirrid, on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog national park. Families searching for home care in Abergavenny are supporting parents in the town centre and around the market hall, in Mardy and the roads to the north, in Llanfoist and Govilon under the Blorenge, in Llanellen and Gilwern, and in villages such as Llanwenarth, Llantilio Pertholey and Pandy towards the Black Mountains. Out in the hills, visiting care can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Monmouthshire, Pontypool, Monmouth, Ebbw Vale, Brecon and Cwmbran.

Nevill Hall and the Grange
Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny, run by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, provides a minor injuries unit, inpatient care and clinics, while serious emergencies go to the Grange University Hospital near Cwmbran. A live-in carer in Abergavenny arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to support, rather than waiting for a package of visits.
Monmouthshire County Council and Welsh charging
Adult social care in Abergavenny is provided by Monmouthshire County Council, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Crickhowell, just up the valley, is in Powys, so check which council covers your relative's address.
The market, the castle and the Sugar Loaf
The market hall, the castle and its museum, the canal towpath at Govilon and the views of the Sugar Loaf are favourite outings, and the food festival each September fills the town. Many older people here have farmed the hills, worked in the valleys' steel and pits or run the town's shops. A carer who drives can keep up church, chapel and family visits. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
