Home care on the curve of Cardigan Bay
Aberystwyth is a university and seaside town in the middle of Cardigan Bay, with a Victorian promenade between Constitution Hill and the castle, and the National Library of Wales on the hill above. Families searching for home care in Aberystwyth are supporting parents in the town centre and along the promenade, in Penparcau across the Rheidol, in Llanbadarn Fawr and Waunfawr, in Comins Coch, and in villages such as Bow Street, Penrhyncoch, Capel Bangor, Borth and Llanrhystud. Out on the farms, visiting care can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Machynlleth, Ceredigion, Cardigan, Dolgellau, Montgomeryshire and Powys.

Bronglais, in the town
Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth, run by Hywel Dda University Health Board, provides emergency and inpatient care for a huge area of mid Wales, with specialist treatment in Swansea, Cardiff or Shrewsbury. A live-in carer in Aberystwyth arranged before discharge means your relative can come home as soon as they are medically fit, to someone ready to help.
Ceredigion care in Aberystwyth
Adult social care in Aberystwyth is provided by Ceredigion County Council, based in the town, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
The prom, the cliff railway and the starlings
A walk along the promenade to kick the bar, the cliff railway up Constitution Hill, the steam train to Devil's Bridge and the starlings swirling over the pier on winter evenings are favourite outings. Many older people here have farmed, worked at the university, the library or the hospital, and Welsh is the first language in many homes. Tell us if your relative prefers a Welsh speaker. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. Your local council's adult social care team can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Where needs are mainly health-related, NHS Continuing Healthcare can pay in full. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.

Yes. Carers move into the home rather than travelling from a local branch, so we cover Aberystwyth and the towns and villages around it, including Glamorgan, Machynlleth and Dolgellau. Rural addresses are covered too, at the same weekly price.
