Home care at the head of the Cynon valley
Aberdare is the main town of the Cynon valley, a former coal and iron town surrounded by hills, with long terraces climbing the valley sides. Families searching for home care in Aberdare are supporting parents in the town centre and around Victoria Square, in Trecynon, Cwmdare and Llwydcoed, in Abernant and Cwmbach, in Aberaman and Godreaman, in Hirwaun at the head of the valley, and down the valley in Mountain Ash, Penrhiwceiber and Abercynon. Many older people live in terraces with steep front steps. A carer who lives in helps your relative stay safe.
We also arrange care in Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd, Tredegar, Ebbw Vale, Maesteg and Neath.

Prince Charles Hospital and Ysbyty Cwm Cynon
Emergency and inpatient care for Aberdare is usually at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, run by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, with some residents treated at the Royal Glamorgan in Llantrisant, while Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in Mountain Ash provides rehabilitation and clinics. A live-in carer in Aberdare arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to support.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Welsh charging
Adult social care in Aberdare is provided by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, which carries out free needs assessments and carer's assessments. In Wales there is a weekly limit on what councils can charge for care and support at home, worth checking once your relative is assessed. Care services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
Dare Valley, Aberdare Park and the Coliseum
Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare Park with its lake, a show at the Coliseum and the choirs and chapels of the valley are part of life here. Many older people here worked in the Cynon valley pits, including Tower Colliery at Hirwaun, the last deep mine in Wales, or in the factories that followed. If your relative prefers Welsh, tell us when we match. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Often, yes. The council's adult social care team for Rhondda Cynon Taf can carry out a free needs assessment and, depending on savings, may contribute to the cost. Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
