Home care from Salthill to Connemara
Galway is a lively city on the Corrib and Galway Bay, with Connemara's lakes and mountains to the west and farmland to the east. Families searching for home care in Galway are supporting parents in Salthill, Knocknacarra and Barna along the bay, in Renmore, Mervue and Ballybrit on the east side, in Oranmore, Claregalway and Moycullen just outside, and in Connemara villages such as Oughterard, Spiddal and Clifden. Out in Connemara, home support hours can be very hard to secure. A carer who lives in brings support to the door.
We also arrange care in Ennis, Athlone, Castlebar, Limerick, Roscommon and Mullingar.

University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park
Galway University Hospitals, at University Hospital Galway in Newcastle and Merlin Park on the east of the city, provide emergency and specialist care for the whole west of Ireland, and the emergency department is often very busy. A live-in carer in Galway arranged in advance can help your relative come home as soon as they are medically ready.
HSE home support in Galway
In Ireland, home support is assessed and provided through the HSE rather than local councils, and waiting times for home support hours in the west can be long. Some families combine HSE hours with private live-in care. The Nursing Homes Support Scheme, Fair Deal, helps with nursing home costs but not with care at home. Nursing homes are inspected by HIQA. We quote in euros, from €1,400 a week.
The prom, the Gaeltacht and home
For many older Galwegians, a good day means a walk along the Salthill prom, Mass, a trip into the city or a drive out to Connemara. In the Gaeltacht, Irish is the language of home, and a carer who respects that, or speaks some Irish, can make a real difference; tell us what matters when we match. Many families have children abroad, so we agree how the carer keeps you updated. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Ireland
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Ireland is regulated by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through the Health Service Executive (HSE). Home care support is arranged through the HSE, and residential care costs can be offset through the Nursing Homes Support Scheme (Fair Deal) — a distinct system from the UK, and costs are quoted in euro (EUR).
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.
Our carers
The people who would be caring for your family
Our carers are spread across the UK, supported by regional care managers. Every one is interviewed in person, enhanced DBS checked and reference-checked before they are ever introduced to a family — and you choose who moves in.
- Interviewed face to face, never hired on paperwork alone
- Enhanced DBS checked, with references verified
- You meet and approve your carer before they start

Can you arrange live-in care near Galway?
Yes. Carers move into the home rather than travelling from a local branch, so we cover Galway and the towns and villages around it, including Ennis, Castlebar, Roscommon and Nenagh. Rural addresses are covered too, at the same weekly price.
