Home care in the seaside town of Porthcawl
Porthcawl is a seaside town on the Glamorgan coast, with its harbour and lighthouse, the surf at Rest Bay, the old villages of Newton and Nottage and a famous Elvis festival every September. Families searching for home care in Porthcawl are supporting parents around John Street and the seafront, in Newton and Nottage, near Rest Bay and Sandy Bay, and inland in Pyle, Kenfig, North Cornelly and Laleston. Many retired here from the valleys and want to stay by the sea. A carer who lives in lets them.
We also arrange care in Bridgend, Maesteg, Port Talbot, Barry and Cardiff.

The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend
Porthcawl residents are treated at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, run by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, with some specialist care in Swansea or Cardiff. A live-in carer in Porthcawl arranged before discharge means your relative comes home to meals, medication and company, rather than waiting on a ward for a care package.
Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh rules
Adult social care in Porthcawl is provided by Bridgend County Borough Council. In Wales, the council assesses what matters to your relative, and what it can charge each week for care at home is capped. Services are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales. Live-in care can work alongside what the council provides. We can often match Welsh-speaking carers.
Rest Bay, the harbour and the Elvis festival
A walk along the promenade to the lighthouse, the views at Rest Bay, the dunes and pool at Kenfig nature reserve, a show at the Grand Pavilion and the Elvis festival are favourite outings. Many older people here worked in the Port Talbot steelworks, the pits of the Llynfi and Garw valleys or the town's hotels and caravan parks. A carer can keep up chapel, the golf and family visits. You choose your carer from matched profiles before anything is agreed.

Funding & regulation
Paying for care in Wales
Home care is regulated and funded differently in each nation, so the route is not the same everywhere. Here is how it works where you live.
Read our full funding guide →Who regulates care here
Home care in Wales is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). They inspect and register home care services to make sure standards are met.
Where funding comes from
Apply through your local authority's social services department. Funding is means-tested by the local authority, with the Welsh Government setting a capital limit above which people fund their own care. What a council can charge for the care at home it arranges is capped at £100 a week (2026/27); privately arranged live-in care is paid separately.
How we fit in
Live-in Care Direct is an introductory agency. We introduce self-employed carers to families rather than employing them, so you contract directly with your carer and keep the choice of who provides your care.

Attendance Allowance, paid to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care, is not means-tested and can be put towards care.
