Support to pay for the care you need

Attendance allowance and Personal Independence Payments are benefits paid to people who need help with personal care due to illness or disability, including physical, mental or learning disabilities. The level of support depends on your needs.

Direct payments are funds given to you by the local council to pay for care. They are means tested and dependent on a care needs assessment. While circumstances vary, you'll unlikely to be eligible if you have combined assets of more than £23,200 in England, not including the value of your home.

If you have long term complex health needs, you may be eligible for care provided and funded by the NHS. This is not based on your income. The local Clinical Commissioning Group will carry out a detailed multi assessment to find out if you are eligible.

If you own your own home you might be able to release some of its value to pay for care. You can keep living in your home and receive an upfront payment. Always seek financial advice before buying such a product.
